I write goups of students' names on index cards I group the kids according to ability levels ( I mix them up), behavior/personality i.e. --- don't put two strong-willed or 2 badly behaved in same center group. I try to make the groups an even number, so that they can work/play with a buddy when needed. I put a magnet on the back of each card and place on a magnetic surface (file cabinet, magnetic wall chalboards, a metal door, etc.) I then place a card with the center # printed on them or I use plastic magnetic numbers next to each center group list. This can be rotated to your | | liking daily.Have some kids at centers and some at desks doing seatwork. Do your 1:1 testing at a back table or at your desk where you can still see all kids. At a specified time they can rotate activities-- kids at desks now go to centers and kids and centers go to desks. a few thoughts-good luck
