First Days
By Kerri

Clip to ScrapBook
Welcome to 3rd Grade! You will LOVE it! The first few days will go by quickly. They should primarily be getting-to-know-your-new-class type activities.
1. You can take the kids on a tour of the school. Even though many
of the kids will be returning to your school from the previous year, you will have some newbies. The tour gives you a chance to practice whatever hallway rules/procedures you have.
2. Try to get pictures of your principal, asst. principal, counselor, etc. or better yet, get them to come by your room in person to let your kids know who these people are.
3. The first few days are
also good for team-building. I found a website that gives several different types of team-building activities that I used last year.
4. I also have my students make a time capsule at the beginning of the year. In addition to a picture and writing sample, I have the students work in partners to cut a piece of string that is as long as they are tall, trace their hands and feet, and complete an "All About Me" information sheet. The kids enjoy seeing how much they have grown and changed at the end of the year.
I hope this helps
