I sympathize... By Third grade teacher

First grade teacher, I fully sympathize with you! I am a veteran teacher, but our school also does not let us access the class lists early. Yes, we do participate in creating the lists, but the principal keeps them under| lock and key and refuses to release them to the teachers much earlier than August. Every year, several of us try to create a case for receiving them early, and she either refuses, or reluctantly agrees and then finds some reason to go back on her word. With all the crummy weather we have had in the northeast this July, I would have welcomed the chance to write my letters, do nametags , put | | labels on folders etc. I think the reason is that there are changes made from what the teachers have created, and she doesn't want us (or heaven forbid, the parents) to be aware of them. We're supposed to get them next week, and already a colleague tells me that the secretaries have said we probably won't get them then. We also have summer school going on in our wing, and this means we won't be cleaned until that's over, so access to the room will be limited until mid-August. I get along very well with the secretaries and the custodians, but sometimes, decisions come from the top that are beyond their control. It is what it is, and I'm going to enjoy the rest of the summer and do the best I can.
