Forever third grade
By JulieP

Clip to ScrapBook
I have taught no other grade but third. Practicums were in third, student teaching was in third. Believe it or not, I like the older students. I would love a fifth or sixth grade position, but my only offers are for third
grade. I think it depends on your school or state needs. In Texas, third and fourth grades seem to be the hardest to get filled and keep filled. Very few teachers want to deal with the state testing in these two grades. When a principal has a third grade and fifth grade opening, I get offered the third. "But you already have experience there." It doesn't help that my test scores were
great last year. Of my 22 studetns, only 2 did not pass state testing.

What I have decided to do is switch districts where 6th grade is still elementary. I had to accept a third grade position to get in, but hopefully after this year she will transfer me to fifth or sixth if there is an opening.
