I appreciate the fact that you are trying to get a great clasroom together! I know from experience that it can be a strain on the budget. I am a recovering teacher store addict. Use the computer in free time. There are many| free ideas just for the printing...Go to a dollar store and invest in sets of magnetic letters for making words/spelling centers...Listening Centers...cheap tape recorder and headsets...Books on tape are reasonable through scholastic, troll, etc. Read your own books onto tape...kids love hearing you.(Be sure to create a signal for time to turn the page.) Get the help of staff to do this...not | |
time consuming.What kid would not love hearing the principal, secretary, lunch lady, reading a book?Befriend a vet for "idea books." Most books truly are not worth the cost,as a whole. Check out theirs...(Most will share, if not ,I will search/share,E-mail me.I always get back, will try to be prompt.)I,ve found that teacher stores are great for posters...cute and reasonable...Many times they are cheaper than creating your own...My rule of thumb when approaching my classroom: Is do I have more time(to create)than money(to buy)? Subsribe to Mailbox,etc. at your grade level...a wealth of teacher-tested ideass
