Clip to ScrapBook
We do lots of finger plays and such that involve numbers (monkeys on the bed, five little pumpkins, frogs on a log, etc.) It helps the kids learn to do basic counting 1 to 5. We also involve lots of patterning, with shapes,
colors, clapping rhytms, etc. We sort by shapes & colors and also work on shape & color recognition.
For science, we keep things basic and simple. Sink or float is always a fun and interesting experiment/lesson. With spiders we'll learn that they have 2 basic body parts and eight legs, that some make webs, that they can live is different places & that they ones we usually see are
not harmful to use. Insects will be compared to spiders in that they have 3 body parts, usually 6 legs, some have wings, some have antennae, they don't make webs. When we study the weather, we just talk about the different kinds we've experienced and how to be safe (take precautions)during certain weather conditions common to our region. We live in an area where we get to see the seasons change, so we also talk about about that, in a simple version about the trees "going to sleep" for the winter. From this, we can go into animals that hibernate.
Hope these can get you started!
