Lunch count/attendance
By Cheryl

Clip to ScrapBook
Each of my students is assigned a number on the first day of school (alphabetically). I have a file cabinet they see as they walk in the door. On the side I have 4 signs - Hot lunch, Salad/Sandwich, Brought lunch, Absent. Each student moves their number from Absent to the appropriate sign, so not only do I know how many to order, I know who is absent. It is a classroom job to move all numbers back to absent at the end of the day.
For numbers I use the calendar pieces you can buy at the School Supply store. I glue them on tagboard and have them laminated, then put a small piece of magnetic tape on the back so they stick to the file cabinet. You can use them for a few years if you laminate them.
