Reading Aloud
By Karen

Clip to ScrapBook
I have taught 5th grade for many years, and the books I read aloud in a given year depend on my students. I try to always find a book that can draw them all in, and I spend some of my summer reading time reading kids' literature.
Here are some of the books they enjoyed last year:

Coraline
Molly Moon's Incredible Book of Hypnotism
The Cay
Where the Red Fern Grows
Randall's Wall
Afternoon of the Elves
Inkheart
Holes (we compared it with the movie, and they loved the book even more)
Tale of Desperaux
If You're Not Here, Please Raise Your Hand (poetry written by a teacher about

her experiences with kids)

Esme Raji Codell lives for kids literature. She has appeared on tv, and I met her in person. Her book, How to Get Your Kids to Read (or something like that) has a wealth of information in it. The activities are for both parents and teachers and truly engage children.

Happy reading!
