subbing By chris

I was a sub and am now a full time classroom teacher and I agree with the first poster - the best way to get called back is to get in, do a good job, and let the teacher know how to request you again. Your business cards| will be good to leave with a note about how the class was the first time you sub for a teacher. That way the teacher doesn't have to search for your name or sub #, they can put the card in a safe place. Word of mouth between teachers and availability is the biggest predictor of getting called back. We always ask each other "Who should I call for a sub?" or "Have you had a good sub | | lately?" before we call for a sub. As for the letter to the principals, I might wait on that. You might get called in anyway by chance the first few weeks of school and be able to make a good impression and leave your cards (which you could print up at home). Teachers usually make more of the decisions about subs than principals. If you are really wanting to make an impression - offer to volunteer to help on the first day of school (traffic control, lunch, etc) and then leave your card. Then again, when I was a sub, I got called the very first day of school to sub for a yet to be hired teacher assistant! Just wondering - why are you being selective? What made the four school stand out?
