is it Animal Island?

I think what you are describing is a kit called Animal Island or Letter Island. The kit has a cassette tape and teacher's guide with it and the animals are Henry Hippo, Samatha Snake, Salty the Parrot and Lucy Leopard. If this is what you are referring to let me know and I will go to the school and check out who published it.
