When I taught 6th grade LA, I tried to center my boards around what I was teaching. An example would be a board for the writing process. Another might be one for the 6 traits of writing. You could do a board that highlights student writing or poetry.
I hope this helps. Perhaps maybe you wanted a general theme and I missed your question entirely. If that is the case, 6th graders like pretty much the same things as 4th graders, but just not quite as 'babyish'. I am now teaching grade 4 and I use many of my same grade 6 things. They love anything to do with the school mascot...can you do a theme around yours?? They like movie stars and rock singers...can you do a theme based on that? Hope this helps.
