reading groups

Your plan sounds good. I would caution you against making homogenous reading groups. I has mixed levels and they worked very well together. The higher kids were very patient with the struggling readers. The down side though I could never really tell who was really doing the seatwork if they helped each other. (I did have a volunteer occasionally come in and help monitor the seatwork, but she wasn't as reliable as I had hoped.) I had a writing/mini grammar lesson day where we would practice skills then try to incorporate them into their writing.
