my advice
By former student teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
I had a fantastic student teaching experience and just thought I would throw in my two cents.
In the beginning (while you're observing), definitely take notes on how the teacher has set up her daily routine, how she
handles transition times, what type of classroom management system she uses, and make sure you ask her to clarify anything you don't understand.
Once I started taking over the teaching responsibilites, I purposely taught in a similar manner (atleast the first week). Then, I gradually changed things to suit my own teaching style. I always made a point to share my new ideas with her and
ask for feedback (I felt this was a courtesy- afterall, it was HER classroom, not mine). You don't have to ask about everything, but it's nice to involve them and show that you respect their thoughts and opinions. In my case, I student taught for a teacher who has taught for 25+ years and she had great ideas and suggestions for me. So it was actually to my benefit to ask! Good Luck! I'm sure you'll do great.
