Learning Focused Schools By Doni
|
| My district adopted the LFS philosophy two years ago. It is mostly common sense and good teaching practices. I highly suggest doing the LFS training if your district is offering it. Also, check out their web site for their unit/lesson planner (free download) - www.learningconcepts.orgThe main thing is taking the graphic organizers a step further. Graphic organizers on their own do not improve retention. Students have to learn how to use the information in the graphic organizers. The first year we used the LFS concepts, many teachers got caught up in the graphic organizers but never DID anything with them. The focus on vocabulary is probably LFS biggest strength. Vocabulary instruction is far more important to me than spelling, yet traditionally we spend far more instructional time teaching spelling.
