Lynn, this is what I think I worked out
By Kim

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi! What grade do you teach?

For my third graders I think I have it figured out. My principal wants to see the whole set of lists for the year before she approves what I am doing, so this is what I decided on.

about 10
words a week from either the word wall itself or on the back words (I used words from the MxM book and got words that were related from that) Then I will add 2-3 math words (strongly "encouraged" by the district to use in preparation for the state test) for a total of anywhere from 12-15 words a week. The list of these words will go home on Monday for the dreaded test on Friday. I also
plan to send home a spelling contract each Monday as well. Students will have to complete 2 activities off the contract and turn them in on Friday.

In order to get more points on the test I plan to also have 5 dictation sentences using word wall words from that week and previous weeks too. Students will not receive these in advance.

Our old spelling tests from 1st -3rd were always based on sentences so this will not be a problem where I am at.

I hope all this makes sense! Let me know if you have any questions.

Kim
