Oh Great Julie!!!! The discussion is off and running Hi everyone Im a Reading Resource Teacher but this year I asked for 3rd grade I wanted to teach where I would have 1st hand knowledge of the children. I ususally teach 5th - 9th grade reading remediation skills. Reading "WM" will provide additional researched based strats for my 3rd graders I have to agree that Word Study activites are especially important for comprehension. I want to build upon my phonics skills:decoding and structual analysis training which was glossed over as a Language Arts preservice-teacher Besides | | I'm a sight reader :) I want to use her book as a springboard to increase a greater amount of strats in the content areas as well. Because I observed that my 4th gr students scores increased this spring using a 4 blocks reading framework consisting of: word study, comprehension, fluency, and writing. I lost my book yesterday. .....but! I promise to catch up and read to contribute with questions and reflections that are worthy Incidently I found that it is true that fluency blocks and word study blocks overlap in teaching so again I am excited to read "WM"I wish you all a Sun Filled Day Susan
