I've used the Brand Name words two ways: 1. spelling unit ( I take each phonetic group, (you'll notice that each month has about 4 different sections of words offered) and make each a weeks' worth of work, using the Nifty Fifty as challenge words ) and 2.the way the book suggest, spending about 10 to 15 minutes daily picking & choosing activities. Both ways have worked well. If the students NEED the basic phonics, I use the words as spelling units.
