cozy room By Cathy

Hi Amanda,I too love to have a cozy classroom. I think kids at any age appreciate it and feel more comfortable. I have a wooden rocking chair which I purchased for $10.00 at a flea market. I drape a cotton throw blanket | over it. I also painted my own terra cotta (sp) flower pots with country colors. Plants add to the atmosphere but I also use the pots to hold things like pens and pencils, etc... I collect Boyd Bears so I keep my two teacher bears on a shelf in my room. Also, I love baskets so I bring them in to store things like magazines for the kids to read and other supplies like cd's, tapes, | | etc... I use an apple air freshener so the room always smells like a country craft shop. The kids always tell me how much they love the smell!! (Teachers too.) All of my bulletin boards are covered in fabric and I also use tablecloths to cover my supply tables. I change them with each season or holiday. They make the room feel more festive and also hide my Rubbermaid storage boxes underneath. I had a Susan Winget wall calendar and when the year was over, I cut out all of the pictures and had them laminated. I hung these at the top of my bookshelves along with apple cut outs. They are country folk art with school themes and wonderful sayings. On this top shelf I display all of my "teacher stuff" that people have given me over the years, like apples, tins, etc... I also have a cute schoolhouse lamp up there. Just describing all of this makes me excited to return in August.
