sloppy handwriting

I teach 1st grade now, but when I was in the fifth grade, my teacher had a really great idea. Those students who maintained an 'A' average in handwriting were allowed to use pens during class. Of course we weren;t allowed to use them during math, but it didn't matter. We thought it was very cool!
