The Great Kapok Tree
By Tracey

Clip to ScrapBook
The Great Kapok Tree, by Lynne Cherry is a great book to start discussion and you can use it as a jumping off point. Basic plot if you've never read it is that this man goes into the forest to chop down a huge kapok tree. He falls asleep after hitting it with the ax just a few times, and as he sleeps, different animals that live in/near the tree whisper in his ear why that tree is so important to them, and last of all, a native child tells him to awake and view the forest with new eyes.
