Casey was right in that both of the programs to provide children with phonics practice as well as reading practice through guided reading groups. CL is also correct in that the guided reading format differs for the different methods. The four blocks method uses different groupings (pairs, small groups...)that can be ability based but aren't for the most part where as F&P uses ability groupings where in the groups are not permanant and can and should be adjusted according to need (I think).
