I didn't do many worksheets with my first graders, except to reinforce some math games that we learned. Our journal writing was in composition books, so I used those for report card grading. We did do some extra writing activities and math or social studies sheets, so I graded most of those and sent them home. I only keep what I know will really help me. All the formal assessments, journals, running records, checklists, several writing and math samples per quarter - all stay with me. If there is a particular child who's having some trouble with certain skills, I'll also keep work showing that to give to parents at conference if a grade is in question or they're unsure what is going on. Other than that, everything goes home! If you can, ask to see a blank first grade report card now. It will give you an idea of what you need to be looking at and saving over the quarter. I REALLY wish I would have done that my first quarter, because I was so shaky on what to give for report card grades because I didnt know what was going to be on there in advance! Then, you can save what you need to and get rid of the rest. Hope that helps! Lisa
