Counting the days of school
By Bonnie

Clip to ScrapBook
I don't do calendar activities but I do coulnt the number of days of school. I have a pocket chart with straws and place value labels. We add a straw and change the number each day. We also have several other ways to show
how many days of school of passed. I have sentence strips mounted on the bulletin board and I make a tally mark each day. I also have a drawing of a piggy bank with several velcro strips. I have taken plastic coins and put velcro on the back. We add a penny each day, trading for dimes every ten days, and trading for a play dollar on 100 day. We also have colored strips that we use to make
a chain. We add a link each day and every ten days thumb tack it up to the border. FInally, I have 180 laminated paper circles with a number. We add a circle every day. This seems like a lot but it shows the kids that numbers can be represented more than one way. The straws, chain, and coins show grouping by tens. This leads us up to the celebration of 100 Day. There are a lot of sites with suggestions for activities for 100 Day.
