Something to Think About
By Third Grade Teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
I have been teaching third grade for a number of years. I use to try to have a Helper Chart with lots of helpers each day. It gets really crazy when you are trying to change that everyday with having so many jobs. Then
I decided to do One Helper a day. I also cut down my jobs from SO MANY to just a few (messenger, paper passer, line leader, monitor) and that person does ALL the jobs for that day. That has really worked much better. A flip system with the kids names on cards works wonderfully! The next day, you just flip to the next card. Soon the kids catch on to when there turn will be and it cuts
down on them asking "When is MY turn?" Sometimes if a second person is needed (like handing out bulky workbooks) I will have the helper choose a helper.

I do like the above poster's suggestion on having a "Tourist". We are forever taking pictures for our scrapbook, and this would be a great way to do it!
