Keeping Track of Books
By Casey

Clip to ScrapBook
I too have a very extensive classroom library. The method I use to keep track took some time to get set up, but now that it is up and running it works great!

First, I typed the title and author of each of my books onto
2x3 white, sticky, mailing labels. Then I stuck each label to a piece of 2x6 inch construction paper strip. The strip with the book's title on it goes inside the front cover of the book. Next to my classroom library I have a pocket chart with each child's name on each pocket. Before a book can leave the library (or the classroom) the student must put the paper strip into their pocket. It
is so easy for me to glance at the chart and see who has books out and who doesn't. I limit the amount of stips per pocket to two. Also, I do a "pocket check" every Friday to monitor what is being returned. I had all of my strips laminated for durability.

It works great for me!
