pens versus pencils

this is only my opinion, but as an experienced second grade teacher i would never let my students use a pen for anything other than checking a paper. I completely understand the problems of losing pencils (and whatever else they do with them), but is that really going to be solved with switching to pens? All they tend to do if they have a pen is write with it at all times and all over everything. Also, if they do mess up (and they are second graders) their paper will look like one big ink blot because even if they don't make a mistake they will mark everything out because it is getting to use the pen more. Anyway, just my opinion. Good Luck!!
