Reading Block
By Jen

Clip to ScrapBook
My reading block time is only an hour but here's what I do.
15 - 20 minutes - reading minilesson
30 - 35 minutes - individual/group reading time
5 - 10 minutes - sharing time

The minilessons are things like: point of view, characters, theme, plot, etc...
The individual/group reading time is where the students read their novels and complete their jobs for their lit circles. They also work on a letter to me in their reading notebook.
The sharing time is when students volunteer to share what they read about. It might be questions or comments.

There is a wonderful teacher resource book called Guiding Readers and Writers. I got a lot of my information from there.
