I have been to a job fair in New York, and I think you are totally on track as far as researching the schools ahead of time. This was difficult for me to do and I ended up finding out that many schools present at the job fair are hard-to-staff, low-performing, VERY TOUGH schools that are willing to hire you on the spot. No demo, no tour of the school, etc. Think about it...OF COURSE there are fantastic schools in the city...but the applicants are going to go to them, and apply personally. I found it to be a high-pressure situation where principals put you on the spot about accepting positions. After 3 interviews and 3 job offers, I got the hint and left.
