Leaving a class
By Kathy

Clip to ScrapBook
After teaching 25 years I can say that each class is special in its own way and it's never really easy to say good-by--whether it's a "dream class" or a tough one! It's hard to "let go" even on the years you can't wait for
summer vacation!

It does get a little less painful over the years as you begin to realize this is the nature of teaching. I think one thing that has helped me is to see teaching as a chance to make a difference in a child's life for a year. To know that it has a beginning and ending. And to know that there will be another class with its unique personality come September who

will seem just as hard to say good-by to the next year.

Having said that, know that it's o.k. to shed tears--and sometimes it helps to have a little private "closure" time at the end of the year remmbering--perhaps journaling--some of the things that made this particular year special.

Then leave with a sense of accomplishment knowing you did the best job possible and enjoy your summer vacation as you look forward to the next special class coming up in the fall!
