tardies-long post
By noni

Clip to ScrapBook
Here in NSW, Australia, we have what we call Home School Liason Officers assigned too different areas and it is their job to check up on student's attendance in all the schools in their district. These officers are usually
teachers who have retrained for this specific role. If there is a concern by a teacher/school on a student, the Home/School liason officer is called and they will do a home visit, (or several). Twice a term, we have to pass in our rolls for the officer to check up on known truants/tardies and to "bookmark" anyone new. Last month, our Liason officer camped out in the front office and confronted
children and parents of the habitual tardies personally. There has been a noted improvement by these children, but as one poster has already written, their tardiness will probably return to "normal". It's a shame when these chn start school with so much potential & they are left behind simply because they are not benefiting from a whole day at school. Notes are also sent home by our school but the personal visit usually shakes them up for a while.
