I hear you....

When I read your post I thought you were in Illinois. We have the exact same story here. I had my own classroom the first year out of school, but was laid off. Word is the district is hiring new graduates each year and
then laying them off so they don't have to tenure anyone. This past year I subbed and may have to again this next year. There are other districts hiring and I've come close to a job a few times, but around here each principal has told me they are getting about 150-200 applicants for each opening. It's been a privilige just to get the interview! There have been a ton of openings around
the outlying Chicago area. Unfortunately, I'm unable to move too far north because of family. The other booming areas are Vegas, Florida, and Houston used to be a hot market as well. Hang in there! I've had most of my interview opportunities because of subbing and getting to know the principals.
