I considered using both methods in my classroom as well. One suggestion that I was given was to do 4 blocks on Mon.and Wed. and guided reading groups on Tues. Thurs. Then on Friday would be used for assessment and finishing up on work from the week. I really like this idea, because then you can have the best of both worlds.
