Do you have access to clear graduated cyclinders or clear measuring cups because you can have the kids measure water (use empty soda bottles,one for each group) and have them place an object in the water and see how much water the object displaces. Followed by calculations.. subtracting the new water level from the old water level.
I know that my fifth graders love this!
