I agree that it isn't always what you give them but ow they remember you. Take a photo of you and each of the students and mail it to them with a personal letter. My students LOVE to get mail. One parent told me that the post card I sent was shown to each relative that visited. The post card was a reward for the students learning their addresses. It worked.
