In my science curriculum students have to design 2 different things. One is a floating device that can hold 50 grams. After reading about different kinds of floating devices - boats, canoes, ship etc. they decide how to make their own, we brainstorm supplies together and talk about what makes a good floating device then I set them off to work. It helps to have a couple of extra hands on this day - it is amazing what they come up with!!!
