My Brother Sam is Dead By Maureen

I too teach fifth grade and every year use this book as a read aloud/shared reading. I don't believe it's too old if there is teaching behind the story. My students often vote this book as his/her favorite of the year.

When we have completed the reading, we do a variety of activities to allow students to display their comprehension.
- two voice poems
- bio poem for one of the characters
- constructed response questions
