Allowing students to work together on their assignments

Some subs try to force students to be quiet during classwork. I do at the elementary level. But in middle or high school, I think having them work together (unless it is a test) is the best idea. I think students learn more from each other than from their teachers. I tell them I expect to hear them talking about English or Math (whatever the subject is). Most teachers at the middle grades are big on group work.
