froot loops, marshmellows and toothpicks
By Meaghan

Clip to ScrapBook
I just read about this for teaching place value. Each student gets two mini marshmellows and two toothpicks. Use the marshmellow as the base to stick the toothpick in. You have a tens base and a ones base. Ask them to make the number "41". Put 4 froot loops on the tens toothpick and 1 on the ones. Ask them what the "4" stands for. (not 4, but 40!) I'm going to use it for review for 1, 10, 100 for my 3rd graders.
