I have a fairly large class of 27 students. This could be a major problem with so many, but I deal with it by calling each individual's name in ABC order until they are used to lining up that way. That way, if somebody "cuts," I can say, "Well, Mark is in front of Olivia, because H comes in front of M in the alphabet." And yes, I even have to do this with fifth grade students. They have a hard time arguing with my system.
