I have been using a globe in my kindergarten class. I think it provides the kids with a better understanding than a flat map. Any time we discuss a place in the world, I have the kids help me point out its location on the globe. I plan on teaching them about the north and south pole when I return from our snow day! There are many good sites on the web using songs and poetry to teach about land masses and bodies of water. Good luck!
