Ruby Bridges Movie

I used to read the book to my first graders because it was a good way to show them what happened in the past. I think the movie is wonderful. However a few years ago a parent got upset with me for showing it and called me a racist. I have been shell shocked by this and have avoided Black History month ever since. Perhaps first grade was too young but Ruby was a first grader. I live in a part of Maryland where segration was very real.
