When this happened to one of my students (first grade) I took a very nice Teddy Bear to the funeral home at the wake in the evening. My principal and I went to the actual funeral during the day. The room mothers organized a collection for the family and also bought a book in the dad's memory for the school library. It was a small school and other teachers filled in while I was gone. Perhaps your principal will know what he can allow. God bless them and you.
