Long vowels
By Deb

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi, boy I think we can all relate with the long vowel frustration. I have more success with demonstrating how a "sneaky e" makes a vowel say his name. Ex. "What's this word?" rat-- RAT
"Great, now read this word. rate What does the "sneaky e" make the a say?" so on. RATE
Many examples over several days. They quickly learn the "sneaky e" idea, takes them a couple of days to carry over to their paper, not my board. Hope this helps. Good luck.
