What about a letter box? The students could right on a sheet of paper what they want to tell you (to be done during their free time) and then put it in a box that are for letters only. You could read all them from the week on the weekend at home to yourself and then maybe write a little message back if you would like. Maybe the students would look forward to receiving letters back and that kind of thing. It probably will eventually help their writing skills as well.
