Decimals
By Ellen Murphy

Clip to ScrapBook
I teach 6th grade math. For my decimal unit I try and have an assessment (aside from tests) that incorporate shopping. I gather shopping ads, mainly from supermarkets, and go from there. Give them a budget that they can't go over. Give them the freedom to shop with no limits. We also tie in percents with our decimal chapter so you can allow for tax, discounts etc.
You can vary the project for any special needs as well. You can be creative but stick with the objectives. (I also incorporate rounding into this.)
