silent e
By jana

Clip to ScrapBook
a K colleage of mine uses the 'sneaky e' explanation with her kids, I've always called it the 'silent helper' which comes at ends of words to help the vowel say it's name... We'll discuss how a vowel is 'short', but when we add the silent helper it can then say it's name. Again, you want you kids to have a solid understanding of the short vowel sounds, and also how the long vowel is different... But they seem to catch on to both of these ideas, again, with lots of modeling and reinforcement.
