Space Unit

We also just started our Space Science unit in my 5th grade class a week or so ago. With Discovery Works, the first two activities are creating a constellation in a can and making a planisphere. The kids really enjoyed both of these activities. The first used constellation templates and film canisters. The students traced the templates, then poked holes into the bottom of their canisters to transfer their constellation. The planisphere again used a template, but it worked great for showing the class the different positions in the sky each night at different times.
