Since you are doing guided reading groups, I would suggest that you work with the groups that have your kids in them. The other kids in the group will certainly benefit from your style of instruction. Plus, the principal will see that you are taking a direct approach and your coteacher will begin to see you as more of a partner. Don't be afraid to just jump in. It can be a little intimidating to be new and go into someone else's classroom. I know last year was my first year and that's how I felt.
