I used newspapers and talked about the different sections of the paper. We talked about how to look up movie times.

We use it to cut out the letters to spell spelling words.

Also, I have used it for the kids to find proper nouns. They had a contest, after 10 minutes the child with the largest number of proper nouns won. The catch is if they talked they would be out. This rule took a loud activity and made it silent. This could be done with any part of speech.

Any other ideas???
