transitions
By Carolyn

Clip to ScrapBook
I used to worry about transitions. I no longer do that. I usually allow the transition time to take up to three minutes, so that the kids can get the talking out of their system and have a short (unofficial) break. Even my fifth graders are suffer from attention fatigue after an hour of instruction and activities for each class. I just get annoyed with the kids who aren't ready even after I have written the page number on the board or overhead, and they are just sitting there as if they have not received any directions at all.
